Fighting cancer is a serious, tough battle today, and it has become everyone’s business. The most common types of cancers are breast cancer, prostate cancer, basal cell cancer, skin cancer, colon cancer etc. What this means is that, If detected at an early stage, it can be treated well and on time. This is the message from Only Believe Care Foundation.
It is World Cancer day, and it’s usually celebrated on 4 February every year to raise awareness about the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer.
Recently, World Health Organization has raised concerns that cancer is the second leading cause of morbidity after cardiovascular diseases and almost 47 percent of deaths are related to cancer with people between 55 and 69 years of age and even the younger ones are vulnerable to cancer today.
To commemorate the activities of World Cancer Day which held every 4 February globally, ONLY BELIEVE CARE FOUNDATION (OBCare), a formidable and one of the leading Cancer NGO in Nigeria, visited schools across Akwa Ibom by raising worldwide awareness, improving cancer education and catalyzing personal, collective, and government action supporting those suffering from cancer diseases. The NGO is working together to reimagine a world where millions of preventable cancer deaths are saved and access to life-saving cancer treatment and care is equitable for all—no matter who they are or where they live.
Some schools and places visited were:
- Girl’s High School, Ikot Ibio Eket
- Government Secondary school, Ikot Usekong.
- Community Secondary school Idung Iniang.
- Alex Commercial School Eket
- Government secondary school Afaha Eket.
- Qua Iboa Church school, Grace Bill road.
- Only Believe Care Team went to Eket Main park to sensitize on Prostate Cancer for men.
- The team also Ibeno Town Hall and rounded it up at Ibeno beach.
In all of these places, the Team medical expert, Dr Waribo took out time to enlightened and educate the people on the need to stay healthy while preventing themselves from any form of cancer.
Each year, OBCare rolled out hundreds of such programs and activities by gathering communities, organisations and even individuals in schools, businesses, hospitals, marketplaces, parks, community halls, places of worship – in the streets and online—acting as a powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in reducing the global impact of cancer and this is the cardinal objective to Only Believe Care Foundation.
