ONLY BELIEVE CARE FOUNDATION SEEKS COLLABORATION WITH NICRAT.
On Tuesday March 11, the Founder of Only Believe Care Foundation ( OBcare), Pastor Imaobong Andrew-Essien led her Team members of the Abuja branch on a courtesy call to meet with the management of the Nigeria Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment ( NICRAT).
The aim of the visit was to discuss potential collaborations, research reforms and enhanced strategies for cancer management in Nigeria.
Pastor Andrew-Essien informed the Director General of the Institute, Dr. Usman Aliyu that the objectives of OBcare is to create awareness, counsel, support, referrals and to achieve zero occurrence of cancer in the country. She added that some of the objectives have been achieved to a certain limit due to financial constraints.
The Only Believe Care Founder who intimated her host about the non existence of Cancer Center in Akwa Ibom State listed other challenges of the Foundation to include; lack of funding, non partnership/ collaborations and the inability to provide quality health care services to affected persons.
Responding, the Director General of the Cancer Institute, Dr. Usman Aliyu expressed the Institute’s desire to collaborate with Only Believe Care Foundation and by extension, Akwa Ibom State to achieve successes and results in cancer programmes and elimination.
The Director General who was represented by the Director, Clinical Services, Professor Ali- Gombe, requested for the Work Plan of the Only Believe Care Foundation. He said the Institute is happy to partner with Non Governmental Organizations ( N.G.O.) from other States noting that Only Believe Care is the second N.G.O. from the South South to partner with the Institute.
Speaking separately, the Director, Prevention and Control, Dr. Usman waziri , the acting head, Cancer Surveillance and Monitoring, Dr. Joy Iya- Benson, the Project Coordinator, National Cancer Health Fund, Dr. Arisegi Adeniyi commended and appreciated Pastor Imaobong Andrew-Essien for her vision, passion and zealousness in carrying out the activities of the Foundation. They promised that henceforth Akwa lbom will be recognized and included in subsequent cancer programmes.
Speaking further, a Board member, Mr. Uduak Ekanem thanked the management of NICRAT for a warm reception and accepting to partner with OBcare Foundation. He used the occasion to invite the management of NICRAT to attend the National Cancer Survival Day Celebration on Ist June 2025 , in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The high point of the visit was the presentation of a book on Cancer written by Pastor Imaobong Andrew-Essien, a magazine published by the OBcare Foundation showcasing it’s activities and also the T- shirt of the Foundation.
